Session 2 - Step 7

Dealing with dogs going around the jumps

Wide bearth?

It is very unlikely that you won't have any problems as you go through these exercises. With Riley he is prone to going around the jumps, particularly on his left. Rather than mark the incorrect behaviour or give out about it I need to set him up for success, teach him how to get it right. Or at the very least make the wrong way harder to do than the right.

For a dog that goes around the jumps, add a simple barrier to both sides of the jump so that the easiest way to go over the jumps is the actual jump rather than the long way around.

Step 8 - Match the solution to the problem.

Make sure you set your dog up for success!
